RearGear is an Australian business that was established in late 2007. Owned and operated by Amber and Jess, two first-time mums who met through mother's group, RearGear’s primary goal is to provide opportunities for all mums to be ‘super mums’ without the hard work or the guilt.
RearGear’s launch in 2008 was based on Amber and Jess’s design of a luxurious nappy-free time mat.
They wanted to manufacture a product that was easy for mums to use, removing the need to use and wash piles of towels and cloths that protected carpets and furniture. They also wanted a mat that felt soft and beautiful on babies' skin and was portable and compact.
The RearGear ‘Nudie Mat' was born.
They have since expanded their range of Nudie Mats to meet the designer cravings of todays mums.
In 2009 they also introduced the Baby Buddha Baby Carrier from Canada.
Amber discovered this product after her second baby required open-heart surgery and she wanted to keep him as close and comfortable as possible.
She fell in love with the Baby Buddha so much, that RearGear proudly became the sole Australian stockist.
Australian owned and made, RearGear is all about keeping life simple and meeting the unique demands of a new generation of mothers and babies.
Ethan's Story
Ethan is the newest addition to the RearGear family and second son to Amber. He arrived on Easter Monday in April 2009 and within hours he was diagnosed with congenital heart disease and a condition called Tetralogy of Fallots.
He was rushed to the Royal Children's Hospital and at 17 days old he underwent his first open heart surgery.
Whilst Amber was able to take Ethan home he will undergo a second open-heart surgery in February 2010 and quite likely another in a few years down the track. In the midst of coping with the stress that a sick child brings, Amber was thrilled to discover Heartkids, an organisation dedicated to raising awareness about congenital heart disease. Their support and resources were incredibly important to Amber and her family and since Ethan's homecoming, RearGear has striven to support Heartkids whenever and wherever they can. www.heartkids.org.au
